Helping our residents to steer clear of fraud and scams

The Metropolitan Police were warmly welcomed to Wilhelmina House and Whitgift House to advise and warn Whitgift Care residents about scams and fraudulent acts they could fall victim to.

The workshops were run by Detective Constables, Pam and Soraya, who are part of the fraud prevention unit based in Scotland Yard. With over fifty years experience between them, they were full of advice, tips and fraud prevention methods. Their main aim is to stop fraud and to prevent it from happening.

Residents from Wilhelmina House, Whitgift House and The Whitgift Almshouses soaked up the information before all received a copy of The Little Book of Big Scams. The brochure has been produced to give useful tips and advice to protect and prevent scammers taking advantage of older people and the more vulnerable in society.

The DC’s presented a short DVD about the project Think Jessica, which aims to prevent the older generations from falling victim to telephone and postal scams.

After the video, residents were able to ask questions and were given helpful tips to avoid falling victim to fraud and scams.
