Christmas carols and a feeling of comfort and joy filled the Whitgift Almshouses Chapel when residents, Whitgift Foundation Governors and staff gathered for their annual festive carol service on Thursday 17 December.
Foundation Governor, Cllr Toni Letts, opened the service with a warm welcome and reflecting on 2015, before Canon Colin Boswell led the service as all sang festive choruses including Once in Royal David’s City, Silent Night and In the Bleak Midwinter.
David, one of the Almshouses’ newest residents, said: “It’s my first Christmas here, it’s so great to join together in this way.”
Resident Sheila added: “The carol service is my favourite Christmas event, I absolutely love singing, it brings Christmas to life.”
The congregation joined to read Archbishop John Whitgift’s Prayer as the service drew to a close before all retired to the Common Room to enjoy mulled wine and snacks.
