Residents rekindle treasured memories of Fairfield Halls

Fab 2

Whitgift Care residents reminisced about fond memories of Fairfield Halls when the Fairfield Arts Board brought items from the Fairfield archive to Whitgift House on Thursday 13 April.

Fairfield Halls is close to many of our residents’ hearts as many have worked, performed and been spectators at various events and shows. Residents had the opportunity to look through past programmes from previous performances, concerts and different events that took place at Fairfield Halls.

Resident Marjorie, reflected: “Looking through the memorabilia brought back treasured memories of attending the Arnhem Gallery Dinner Dance and seeing the Kenny Ball Jazz Band perform.”

FAB Project Manager, Nicolette commented: “We had a fantastic afternoon sharing stories and songs from Fairfield Halls with former Fairfield stewards and residents of Whitgift Care. It is great to bring the collection out from the archives and into the community after many months working in the Museum of Croydon.”

Former Fairfield Corps of Stewards Ron and Pete spoke about their treasured memories before leading a sing-a-long of famous past performers, featuring songs by Guy Mitchell, Johnny Rae, The Drifters and Cliff Richard.

The Fairfield Collection is funded by Heritage Lottery Fund and supported by FAB Croydon and Museum of Croydon.
