Twenty talented Year 4 and 5 Old Palace School Prep Polyphonic students sang at the annual Whitgift House Carol Service on Monday 10th December 2018.
Residents, staff, relatives and friends listened to the Polyphonic sing two special anthems ‘Mary did you know?’ and ‘Christmas Star’ and led the congregational carols. Students were warmly welcomed as always, and the girls sang beautifully.
Andrea, Kara, Lara and Daisy in 4J tell us more:
We liked the colourful stained-glass windows in the chapel and the candles reminded us of Advent and the coming of Jesus. It was a lovely experience singing in a different venue to a new audience. Hilary, the wife of one of the residents accompanied us very well on the organ. We really enjoyed listening to the readings in between songs especially the ‘Christmas’ poem by John Betjeman.
Father Andrew led the service and spoke clearly with emotion. We loved it when the residents sang the carols back to us and smiled. We knew it was important to sing our best and try our hardest! Some of us spoke to residents at the end and they congratulated us on our singing which was very kind. Father Andrew also came to speak to us as we know him from school.
On our way out, we were surprised to see chickens in the grounds! We were also excited to see that Angela the Activities Coordinator had sent us each some chocolates in festive bags.
Thank you for the whole experience!
