Here is David’s first-hand account of the fantastic event:
I very much enjoyed Whitgift Sixth Form production of The Sneeze on Thursday 21stMarch 2019.
A collection of one act plays and stories by Anton Chekhov adapted by Michael Frayn, exploring the fine line between tragedy and comedy. One of the highlights for me was 'The Evils of Tobacco,' a solo piece where what begins as a 'dry schoolmasterly lecture' becomes something quite different, in a personal tale of woe wistfully explored with hilarious comic timing.
The piece that gives the play its title begins with an almighty and sudden sneeze from a lowly government worker sitting directly behind an official at the theatre, thus exploring with comedy issues of class.
The standard overall was very high, and it was an enjoyable evening with a great deal of laughter, in a fine setting.
