Being around animals can have fantastic benefits for older people, boosting physical health as well as improving mood and wellbeing.

Many of our Whitgift Care residents share a love of animals and were delighted when over thirty friendly farmyard animals visited Whitgift House on Wednesday 24th July.

The South Croydon care home welcomed, pigs, donkeys, chickens, rabbits and several other lovely animals for the residents to enjoy.

Holding the animals gave residents the opportunity to relived treasured childhood memories.

Whitgift House residents reminisced: “I’ve had an absolutely delightful afternoon. Holding the guinea pig brought back memories of my lovely rabbit I had when I was a little girl.”

“Such a relaxing afternoon in the garden holding the rabbits and playing ball with the dog.” Whitgift House volunteer.

1596 Club member, Lillian said: “Oh the sweet little chicks are just so cute. I’ve really enjoyed today meeting the animals has been so enjoyable.”

Mill Cottage Farm Experience is a mobile farm activity based at Holybourne, near Alton, Hampshire.
