The home was nominated by Superdrug as their chosen worthy cause to receive an array of gifts including beauty, bathing, showering and healthcare products as well as sweet treats.
When the delivery was made last week, staff were stunned by the sheer volume of beauty products, chocolates and treats that filled the home’s reception area.
The gifts will ensure that each of the home’s nursing residents, some receiving end of life care, will receive a stocking full of the items to open on Christmas Day.
The donation could not have come at a better time for the home following a difficult year for staff and residents alike, and with limited visiting taking place over the festive period to ensure residents’ health and safety.
Joe Patterson, Home Manager, Whitgift House, said: “From all of us at Whitgift House, I’d like to say a massive thank you to Superdrug. We have all been rather shocked but hugely heartened by the generosity of so many products donated for our residents. Although Christmas will not be the same for them this year, the gifts will definitely make a difference and put a smile on our residents’ faces on Christmas Day.”
Whitgift House is a purpose-built care home with 36 beds offering round the clock nursing care.
