Liuba Harrison, Scheme Co-ordinator at Whitgift House sheltered flats and the Almshouses, has won the John Whitgift Foundation’s 425th anniversary commemorative pin badge competition in the Whitgift Care category. The runners up are Sindhu Seby, Whitgift House Care Assistant and Hilary Baily, Whitgift House sheltered resident. Entries were submitted from staff and residents across Whitgift Care and judged by the Foundation’s Chairman, Chris Houlding and Chief Executive, Martin Corney. Liuba’s badge design has now been produced and is available for all at Whitgift Care to keep and treasure for years to come. The competition was also run with Foundation schools and was won by Old Palace, Year 11 student, Lilia.
The inspiration behind the badge design is the tree on the stained glass window in the Whitgift House Chapel. Liuba had to simplify the intricate detail of the window and so created a silhouette of the tree and the leaves to symbolise the home’s family unit. The hands represent that we care, and the colour was used to represent Whitgift Care’s brand colour. Liuba comments: “I am over the moon to have won the competition!"
