I’ve worked for John Whitgift Foundation since 1995, my role is to look after all the gardens in Whitgift care. Every day is different I can be mowing the grass, weeding, or planting up flower beds or in the autumn clearing up leaves!
I love the variety and changing seasons each one brings a new challenge! It’s also nice to see the residents enjoying the garden – many of them were keen gardeners themselves and appreciate what goes into a garden.
Whitgift House and Almshouses
I started working for the Whitgift Foundation in 2002 as a live-in warden when on duty; a job that gave me great satisfaction, looking after the resident’s welfare, organising outings, garden Parties, and attending functions at our other homes.

Head of Care
Whitgift House is a home with a small ‘h’ and that makes it special to me. Each person that joins us brings their own uniqueness to our home and it shows in what we do and the sense of belonging we all share. I love this quote from one of our residents which I believe captures us perfectly – ‘You aren’t just carers you are caring friends – like family’
