Inspiration from his father, combined with an apprenticeship Whitgift School, South Croydon means Jay Campbell-Waggott has big career ambitions.A member of the school's Grounds Team, Jay is one of five current and former apprentices to share their experiences forNational Apprenticeship Week. They all told us that a big benefit of an apprenticeship is the opportunity for career progression. Jay’s long-term goal is to pursue a managerial role or run his own business. He told us: - My dad was a greenkeeper, so that was my route into it. I wanted to learn a bit of everything and broaden my horizons on other sports.- I think apprenticeships are definitely a good way of learning, and obviously, you’re making a living as well.- You’ve got to be motivated to motivate yourself. I'm just preparing for my end-point assessment now.Jay and his colleagues have shared their thoughts on apprenticeships and offered some words of advice for anyone considering this route into work, in this article on our website: johnwhitgiftfoundation.org/building-careers-through-apprenticeships/ ... It's National Apprenticeship Week, and five of our colleagues, all current or former apprentices, have shared their experiences of this route into employment.A common theme amongst all five has been the desire to prioritise 'on-the-job' learning. For Jacob Boulter-Howard. a desktop engineer in the IT Team at Whitgift School, South Croydon, this was one of the most beneficial aspects of his apprenticeship. He told us, “You learn the theory and the technical language, but that didn’t compare to what you learned on the job. Having the course day was great, but actually coming in and learning was the most helpful thing.”Read more about Jacob and some of our other colleagues who followed a similar path on our website: ... Panashe Mbanje knew she wanted to work in data analysis. She also knew she didn't want to go to university.A valued member of the Alumni and Development Team at Trinity School, Panashe enrolled in an apprenticeship, which enabled her to earn while she learned. Sharing her experiences to mark National Apprenticeship Week, Panashe told us she felt supported throughout her time as an apprentice: - Learning on the job and getting paid to do it is great, but nothing compares to hands-on experience.- Trinity in itself was supportive, so it wasn't just my specific team... people in other departments were also very happy to help.- They are nurturing talent. Yes, you are getting someone to work for you, but it is personal and career development, too.You can read more about Panashe and other colleagues who joined us via the apprenticeship scheme here: johnwhitgiftfoundation.org/building-careers-through-apprenticeships/ ...
